about
“Feel” is the fifth rockin’ single released from Mud Bay’s new album “Best Laid Plans.”
Murphy Farrell, Mud Bay's drummer will tell you about it right here:
"The song was written by yours truly, Murphy Farrell and my daughter, Aidan Farrell. [BMus, MA. Aidan is a vocalist and holds a Masters in music composition. I’m a lucky guy.] All songs go through an arrangement process with the band. I like to say that it’s like throwing a bone to a pack of dogs, everybody gets a piece of it.That's why the tunes always come out sounding like Mud Bay. [ We might be crusty old dogs but we’re friendly dogs.] I started the song with the lyrics, melody and the basic groove which led to Aidi and I sitting at the piano together where we figured it all out. We are extremely pleased with the end product!!
I can’t say enough about the Muds here. Everyone brought their A game as we always do to make these tunes the best they can be, starting out with Randall’s crunching guitar intro and slide work. Mark’s great vocal, and the band nailin’ down the groove. I love the interplay of Aidi’s awesome backing vocals enhanced by the stellar performance of Jerry Cook’s saxophone as it leads the song to its climactic ending.
All contributors to be thanked for their brilliance. Dennis on bass, Norm Quinn, Trumpet and the incredible talking man, Pete Sweetzir on keys and Hammond organ. Of course, our fearless leader Mud Bay Slim [a legend in his spare time] and a serious thank you to our co-producer engineer, Erik Neilsen for bringing it all together....Thanks to everyone.
As for the subject matter of the song. It’s a wee bit touchy. Without getting into an in-depth explanation let me just say this. The song is an in-your-face lament about grief and loss. When you’re down and expect those that are closest to you to hold you up but they do the opposite instead. It seems that some people want to allocate blame for moments in time we have no control over. Well that just gets downright dangerous in my world. You have to have the fortitude to move on and take care of what’s important. You have to continue to love, remember the good and leave the bad stuff behind......True story"
lyrics
I’m feeling fine, but I think you lost your mind
You don’t think you don't touch, you don't feel
You don’t understand the footprints in the sand
The only things in life that are real
You’re feeling torn & frayed, want a better day
You don’t touch, you don’t think, you don’t feel
Everything you said, like a bullet to my head
You don’t think, you don’t touch, you don’t feel
Painted face, tainted heart
I knew it from the start
Just wanna know what’s goin’ on
Tell me now, before I’m gone
Feelin’ all alone the day you left your home
Can’t beg, can’t borrow, can’t steal
If you find your way, welcome to the fool’s play
Can’t think, Can’t touch, you can’t feel
Painted face, tainted heart
I knew it from the start
Tell me now there’s no fear
Time to get some love in here
I’m feeling fine, but I think you’ve lost your mind
You don’t think, don't touch, you don't feel
Just think, just touch, just feel
Just think, just touch, just feel
Just think, just touch, just feel
Feel…feel…feel (just feel)
