about
Sometimes you just need to find some SOUL IN THE CITY.
Buckle up for a spin with the men from MUD BAY as they race midnight to dawn searching for the heart of the city. SOUL IN THE CITY is the second hard-charging single from Best Laid Plans, the acclaimed new album from MUD BAY, scheduled for February 2022.
Opening with soundscape field recordings captured along the streets of East Vancouver, the band takes you on a soul-mining ride through the city. Big slabs R&B horns arranged by Jerry Cook (sax) and Norm Quinn (trumpet) with keyboards by Pete Sweetzir.
lyrics
Cars and trucks bustin’ off the freeway
Gunnin’ outta the sun like an air raid
Runnin' hard, get the business done
Shake it, make it and take it and get gone
Move on before the shadows are long
Hit it and git, and that’s it
Wake up in the morning hear the 5 o'clock train
Get back up on my feet again
Faces say it all down in the street
Can’t get a real word from anyone I meet
Goin’ through the motions, just ain’t no way
For anybody to live these days
Broadway East & Broadway West
Pavements cold, it’s black and wet
This town ain’t found what it’s looking’ for yet
I been listening I been lookin all round
Can't find no soul in this city no more
When love or money ain't taking you through the night
Gotta be some way to make it right
Get what you need to ease your mind
Get what you need it’s right inside
Everybody got something
Everybody got something
Going out tonight lookin’ for a jumpin' spot
Stay out late till I find what I want
Gotta hear a kick drum and a guitar strum
Backline of cranking tube amplifiers
Some saxophone and a band on fire
Ain't goin home yet cause I ain’t tired
Broadway East and Broadway West
Day breaks on one end, the other it sets
Cold at midnight lonely as it gets
I been listenin’, I been lookin’ all round
I been listenin’, I been lookin’ all round
I been listenin’, I been lookin’ all round
Gotta find some soul in this city tonight.
Gotta be a little soul
Gotta find a little soul
Find some soul in the city
Find some soul in the city
Find some soul in the city
